  • MIRANDA (29 yo) Finish Line: 10K & Half Marathon

"I first met Coach Mike as an active duty Marine--he led me as a Marine first. Once I was out of the Marine Corps, we kept very loose contact on social media until a friend of mine set a goal for a marathon relay and wanted us to run with her. I reached out to Coach Mike and he took me on immediately. He knew Marine me, but not business owner, mom of 2, wife, and a slew of hurdles with hip and joint pain, and no running in YEARS. He started me out slow, encouraged progress over perfection, and helped me through so many different battles, both emotionally and physically as training progressed. Coach Mike made running fun for me. I ended up changing my goal to a half marathon and he got me there. I was battling very limited time, physical therapy, sleep regressions of my kids, and still wanting to train. He worked around my schedule and abilities and pushed me through. I could text him on the tail end of a long run and say I want to stop and he'd call me immediately and push me and remind me why I started. Coach Mike has taken his role as a leader in the Marine Corps and transitioned it to a coach that can push--but also show empathy and love."

  • AMBER (34 yo) Finish Line: Half Marathon, Full Marathon

“I’ve always run for my fitness since giving birth to my first kid 11 years ago, but there was little improvement along the way, and I was constantly exhausted. I ran my first marathon 5 years ago and it was awful. It took me 8 hours and my body shut down. I still found myself committing to insane challenges like the ‘Goggins 4x4x48 Challenge.” I failed that too.   Constant doubts of “I can’t do this” during every run, and after every run I asked myself, “why do I continue to put myself through this if I’m not improving?!”

Fast forward 5 years I was introduced to Coach Mike! He sat me down asked me my goals, what motivates me, etc. I started working with him. I learned way more on how to read my runs, how to tackle them and how to improve. As I made some real progress, I sprung it on him that I wanted to make another attempt at the ‘Goggins 4x4x48 Challenge,’ but with only 2 weeks to prepare. He immediately got to work! He was with me every step of the way and I freaking completed it! I could not believe I did! There is absolutely no way I could have without him!

Over the last year and a half, we have been training me for my marathon in April. A year ago, I couldn’t run 3 miles straight. Now, I’m running a consistent 9+ mile workouts without walking! The feeling of accomplishment I’ve earned is unreal! After every single run, I get more excited with my improvements and get more excited for my next run! I can confidently say for the first time in 10 years I’m excited for a race because I know I can do it with his help! I would be nowhere in my running journey without my coach!!”

  • ANTHONY (31 yo) Finish Line: 1-1/2 Mile (Law Enforcement Academy), Weight Loss

“I think of myself as an athlete, but I needed extra support. Coach Adam gave exactly what I needed to get started on tis endurance goal. He frequently reminded me how I needed a foundation in cadio before taking o harder workouts. I trusted the process and it paid off. I’m happy to report ash I increased my aerobic capacity, decreased my mile and mile and a half times, and decreased my body weight! With his help and guidance, I feel I’m able to continue my progress for the long term. Thank you, Coach Adam!”

  • JOE B. (55 yo) Finish Line: Run all 254 counties of Texas in 2 weeks

“I heard Coach Mike on a podcast. I ran one marathon but was never a consistent runner who wrestled with various injuries. In March of 2021, I contacted Coach Mike, asking if it was possible for a 55-year-old occasional runner to run 12 marathons within 13 days with 6 months to train. My goal was to run at least one mile in all 254 counties of Texas, reaching a marathon distance each day. This would be 20-22 counties for 6 days, rest one day and do it again for 6 days.

He conducted a data-based assessment on my recent running history. I wasn’t sure what the experience would be with a career Marine coaching me, but now I can’t imagine the journey or reaching my goal without him. He put together a custom program that worked with my busy schedule as a husband, father of 10, full time pastor and traveling speaker. The regular check-ins, knowing that every run was being viewed as I logged them, and the detailed feedback were exactly what I needed to make to the launch date without injury. When I would struggle with a workout or pain, he sent me specific exercises to address my weaknesses. The physical side of my training was on point and an overall positive experience as he drew more out of me than I thought possible. It was a great balance of patience and push. One thing that stood out to me was how much he helped me with my “mental game.”

There was a point where I reached a weekly volume of 30+ miles a week and in conversation Coach Mike referred to me as an “athlete”. I was running consistently, putting in the work, but I still didn’t think of myself as a “runner.” It changed my perspective about who I was—an athlete! I brought Mike an extremely unique challenge and he was with me every step of the way. His personal experience with high mileage runs gave me confidence to trust him. With his coaching, in 6 months, I went from a 20-mile weekly load to running 317 miles in 2 weeks. Relentless Soles Coaching was a Godsend! My expectations were met above and beyond, and I can’t brag enough! Thanks for helping me accomplish the biggest physical challenge in my life, Coach!”

  • PARENT OF (13 yo) RUNNER Finish Line: Sprinting for Base Running

“We wanted to share our comments having worked with Coach Mike Cabrero as a running coach for our son. In observing our son playing various sports involving running, sprinting and agility we realized there was an opportunity to increase his potential and speed. Upon introduction to Coach Mike, we discussed our desire to build upon the current running foundation our son had developed through his sports. Mike helped us determine achievable goals for the coaching sessions working to maximize stride, power and explosiveness. Coach Mike listened to our ideas and created a customized program to enhance his running form/gate, stride and power including the idea of pushing yourself beyond what you might think is your limit.

When our son experienced sports injuries involving his feet, Coach Mike (a running coach) completely devised a strength and conditioning program to keep his upper body strong and endurance high. Once the injuries healed and running was possible the program would pick back up building what Mike had created for him. Never was there a time when Coach Mike would jeopardize the safety of our son or further complicate his injury.

From a logistics perspective, Coach Mike has been highly accommodating to our schedule. As parents of young children, things come up all the time and even on last minute notice, Coach Mike would accommodate our situations to keep his training commitments to our son. Also, when training in his garage on rough weather days it was always organized and clean, further demonstrating examples of discipline and strong character for our son.

Our experience with Coach Mike has been great for our son building speed, power, explosiveness and personal drive. His coaching goes beyond just the physical aspects which are so important in any sport. We would highly recommend him to anyone looking to push him/herself beyond their potential. He will tailor a program specific to your needs and push you through the emotional, physical and mental aspects of your challenges. Safe to say Coach Mike has converted our son into a Relentless Soul!”

  • JOE V. (43 yo) Finish Line: Weight Loss

“Coach Mike is an incredible motivator and coach. He instinctively knows when to push and when to back off and always has an encouraging word. I’ll admit I was nervous about getting the “drill sergeant” when I signed up, but he was anything but. Being a fello Man of Christ, we had so many uplifting and encouraging conversations even whe I coundn’t breathe and through my legs were giving out. He was practically the perfect coach/trainer for me. I can’t wait to share my story at the end of this journey!”

  • CATHERINE (27 yo) Finish Line: Half Marathon

“I started working with Coach Mike in January 2023 as he came highly recommended by a friend of mine. I initially just had a goal of 6-ish miles to run a leg of a marathon with another friend of mine, but quickly realized I wanted a wild goal and pivoted to a Half Marathon that June! As someone who dabbled in 5k’s this was a big distance for me, but Coach Mike made it seem less daunting and had a plan to get me to where I needed to be in just 5 months!

I loved that our initial call was so laid back, just a getting to know you as an athlete, what goals I had, and what my experience was! Also, we definitely discussed training as a mom, and how busy life can get. Coach Mike and I FaceTimed on occasion to go over plans, stretches that helped, as well as just normal training updates; the best part was he didn’t even flinch when a kid was screaming in the background, he just got it.

My monthly plans were very straightforward which I liked, I did a lot of training on my treadmill, and in hindsight I should have pushed harder to hit the pavement earlier; but I did what I could with what time/availability I had. I’m guilty of not updating Coach Mike regularly on how training was going just due to the craziness of life, but he was always in my messages checking in!

Training for a half marathon was as much a mental game as it was physical, and Coach Mike did a great job of supporting both sides of that! If I ever decide to get back into training/running long distances I will definitely reach out to Coach Mike again!”

  • NIKKI (30 yo) Finish Line: Full Marathon

I hired Coach Mike for 6 months as I set out to train for my very first marathon! He was committed to understanding my running goals and to designing a detailed and specifically tailored plan to help me reach those goals. As a full-time therapist, mom, and wife, Coach Mike was extremely easy to work with while navigating the wildness of life. He worked with me to adapt my training schedule to fit my needs. I’ve learned a great deal about myself as a runner and what I’m capable of since working with him. I am grateful for the opportunity to be coached by him!

  • ALLISON (38 yo) Finish Line: Full Marathon

“Coach Mike helped me prepare for a marathon last year with a goal of sub-4 hours in mind. I was not new to distance running and had run a handful of ultramarathons and timed events prior. However, road running isn't my favorite, the race was a road run, and the goal of running a sub-4 hour was monster to conquer for me. Mike set me up with a weekly plan and remained available for texting whenever I needed to reach out. He would often checked in on me asking, "You're quiet, how's it going?” or “You need anything?" One thing I found difficult was the mandatory Heart Rate (HR) training, but it helped me focus a lot more on 80/20 running and I learned to ease back on a majority of my runs which helped me in the long run.

As race day got closer, I unfortunately encountered some family-related challenges that prevented me from being able to travel for my race, so I switched to virtual race. This meant running a marathon alone without the adrenaline of the crowd, the presence of other runners or even the general race day excitement. I planned my route and set out early in the morning hours and held a steady 9 min/mile pace for about 14 miles. Any experienced runner knows stomach issues can be a hit or miss during longer events and I took a hit around the halfway mark which slowed me down a bit. I kept on trucking along and got it done, finishing in 4 hours, 16 minutes. I text Mike and said "I did it!" I needed to prove to myself I could do it, without the crowd, other runners, etc. and I did!

While I did not make my sub-4 hour goal, I came very close and was extremely happy with how I did. I know I wouldn't have gotten close to that without Coach Mike's guidance. If you're new to running and don't know where to start or what to do, or even a seasoned runner who’s looking to achieve a personal record (PR) and enjoy a structured plan, I highly recommend Relentless Soles Coaching! I enjoyed my experience and time working with Coach Mike. I have a lot of positive takeaways from my experience that continue to help me with each run I do today!”

  • ANGELA (38 yo) Finish Lines: 5K, 10K, Half Marathon (13.1)

“I started working with coach Mike a little over a year ago. I had a goal of completing a 5K. I was used to running a mile warm up before working out, but distance running was a little scary for me. We talked and he got a feel for my fitness level and my goals. He really listened and made a plan that felt achievable, but still challenging. As I worked through his plans, my goals changed. It now been a year and I am currently training for a half marathon! I never thought I would be at this place, running 10+ miles on the weekend for training. He has coached me through being a busy mom, an injury, sickness, and other setbacks. He never gave up on me and stayed supportive. He’s also held me accountable. This has been the best coaching experience, and with his guidance I have unlocked skills I never knew I had.”
